Tony Raymond Sr. Guard
December 13, 2008 Southeast Bulloch High School
Senior Tony Raymond has been a huge reason for the early success. He has averaged 31.5 points-per-game over the last four games and grabbed an average of 9.25 rebounds in the stretch. It all culminated Tuesday against Jefferson, when Raymond had a double-double - this third of the season, with 36 points and 15 rebounds."It was super," said Southeast Bulloch coach John Page. "(Raymond) had a supporting cast around him (at the JCHS game), but James (Scott) wasn't feeling well and a couple other guys weren't feeling all that well. I told those other guys that somebody had to step up somewhere, and Tony did his part. He's a true leader." Known for his long-distance shot and his high-percentage free-throw shooting, Raymond has added another dimension to his game. "My 3 was off (against JCHS)," said the senior Yellow Jacket, "and I realized that nobody can stop me when I'm going to the basket right now, so that's my mindset. I'm finally hitting free throws now, so why not drive to the basket and get fouled?" Raymond knows that this season is his last chance to put SEB on the map. According to him - so far, so good. "(Jefferson was) ranked (eighth) in the state (in the GHSA coach's poll)," said Raymond after thw win, "and we've been preaching all year that we want to be in the Top 10. We've got to keep winning these region games to (get there)." |
